What is a Family Readiness Group?

A Family Readiness Group is a volunteer organization of soldiers and civilian employees (single or married) and family members belonging to a unit. A Family Readiness Group provides an avenue of mutual support and assistance and a network of communication among the family members, the chain of command, and community resources. An enthusiastic and vital Family Readiness Group can:

  • Increase unit morale
  • Create self-reliant family members
  • Improve quality of life
  • Assist families during deployments/mobilization
  • Increase family understanding of military benefits
  • Serve as a forum for discussion of ideas and problems
  • Plan and organize family functions and morale events
