     Major General Pete Johnson assumed duties as the Deputy Commanding General for the United States Army, Pacific on 1 July 2018. Prior to arriving at Fort Shafter he served as the Commanding General for the U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

     Major General Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry upon graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1985. He also holds a master’s degree in Operations Research from the Naval Post Graduate School and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.

     He was privileged to have commanded troops from company to 2-Star level and deployed to multiple combat tours including Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq; Operation Provide Comfort, Iraq; and Operation Just Cause, Panama. Over the past 33 years, he served in a variety of Army and Joint command and staff positions in the 7th Infantry Division, 75th Ranger Regiment, Southern European Task Force, Joint Special Operations Command, 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, 25th Infantry Division, Training and Doctrine Command, and the Army Staff.

     Major General Johnson’s other command assignments include Deputy Commanding General for Operations, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Commander of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Combined Joint Task Force CURRAHEE, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan; 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq; and C Company, 3rd Battalion, 325th Airborne Battalion Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy. Notable staff positions include G3 82nd Airborne Division, Chief of Staff 101st Airborne Division, Executive Officer to the Army G-3/5/7, and the Director of Training, Army G-3/5/7.

     His awards include three Distinguished Service Medals, four Legion of Merit awards, four Bronze Star Medals, a NATO Meritorious Service Medal, and he has earned the Combat Infantryman Badge (with 1 Star), Expert Infantryman Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Ranger Tab, Army Staff Identification Badge, Master Parachutist Badge (with Combat Jump Bronze Star), and foreign jump wings from South Korea, Jordan, Botswana and Germany.

     Major General Johnson and his wife and teammate have been blessed with almost 25 years of marriage and they have three phenomenal children.
