HISTORY - COMMANDING GENERALS


Major General George F. Moore

George F. Moore

Major General George F. Moore commanded the US Army, Pacific in 1946. A graduate of Texas A&M University, he gained his commission in 1909 into the Coast Artillery Corps. During World War II, he fought in the Bataan Campaign on the Philippines and was captured by the Japanese in 1942 along with General Wainwright. He was released from captivity at the end of the war in August 1945. General Moore was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal while in captivity. He died on 2 December 1949.
