94TH AAMDC Soldier Chosen to Escort Dr. Jill Biden

Fort Shafter, Hawaii—Instead of watching the State of the Union Address on television like everyone else Sgt. Ashleigh Berg, an executive administrative assistant to the commanding general of the 94th Air and Missile Defense Command, was chosen to escort Dr. Jill Biden, one of America’s most influential women there on Tuesday. “I first met Dr. Biden in July 2010 while deployed to Camp Victory, Iraq,” said Berg. “I was one of the 11 female soldiers chosen to eat lunch with her on her visit there.” Berg was also one of the few people that were chosen to sit in the First Lady’s Box during the State of the Union Address. When asked how she was able to get a VIP invite Berg said, “Dr. Biden remembered me from her trip to Camp Victory because we share the same passion for high heel shoes and she promised to maintain contact with us after her trip from Iraq.” When Berg was first given the news that she would be attending the address with such esteemed company she was really excited to be there and felt really comfortable since she met Dr. Biden before. “The speech was amazing,” said Berg. “It related to service members and the military pulling troops out of Afghanistan. That part really touched me since my husband just deployed there.” When asked if she was nervous Berg said “Not really. I was just nervous about the flight there.” My most memorable part of the night was reuniting with Dr. Biden since seeing her in Iraq and talking about our passion for shoe shopping,” said Berg. “Another moment was when Dr. Biden asked how my husband was doing and told me to tell him happy birthday. That really meant a lot to me because she actually remembered his birthday and since he recently deployed to Afghanistan last week,” said Berg. ... More

94th AAMDC's Saint Barbara's Day Ball Annual Event

Honolulu — Soldiers and Family members were treated to a lovely evening at the Marriot Resort and Spa in Honolulu for the annual Saint Barbara’s Day Ball hosted by the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Fort Shafter, HI. Thursday, Dec 8. Throughout the evening the celebration included inducting Soldiers and Family members into the Honorable Order of St. Barbara, the Honorable Order of Molly Pitcher, and finally the Order of St. Martin Patriot Saint of the Quartermaster Branch. The name Molly Pitcher can be traced back to the Revolutionary War. It happens to be a generic term used to describe women who supported men on the battlefield as they fought. As a result, today the award is presented to the women who have voluntarily made great contributions to air defenders across the planet by inducting them into the Honorable Order of St. Barbara and the Honorable Order of Molly Pitcher. Fort Shafter, Hawaii—The 94th Air and Missile Defense Command held their annual Holiday party at the Aliamanu Military Reservation chapel on December 13. Soldiers and family members enjoyed the festivities that were prepared by the 94th AAMDC’s Family Readiness Group. “We had our annual holiday party and our FRG took control of it and did all of the planning and the preparation. Our FRG got together and figured out a schedule and got a location figured out how to provide meals and activities for the families,” said Renea Wyen, the 94thFamily Readiness Support Advisor, a native of Tucson Arizona. The ranks of the soldiers ranged from Sgt. to Staff Sgt. that were inducted in a ceremony presided by Command Sgt. Maj. Tedd Pritchard and Brig. Gen. James Dickinson. “It benefits them due to getting put into the corps. 94^TH AAMDC PARTICIPATES IN KEEN EDGE 2012

FORT SHAFTER, HAWAII-- The 94^th Army Air and Missile Defense Command participated in Keen Edge 2012 that convened from 22-27 Jan. 2012 from the Air and Space Operations Center on Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.
Keen Edge is a joint/bilateral command post exercise conducted to increase combat readiness and interoperability between United States Forces Japan (USFJ) and the Japan Joint Staff (JJS).
“It is important to have these exercises so we are able to plan for contingencies that may occur in our area of operations,” said Sgt. 1st Class Jeffery A. Curtis, a 94^th AAMDC G3 operations noncommissioned officer and a Kansas City, Mo. native.
