Lineage of the 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion

 

 

The 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion was constituted 10 February 1936 in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Battalion, 48th Quartermaster Regiment. The battalion was activated 10 February 1941 in support for the US Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia. On 1 April 1942, it was re-designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Battalion, 48th Quartermaster Regiment and departed six days later for Australia. In December 1943, the battalion was reorganized and re-designated Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 124th Quartermaster Detachment, mobile. Shortly thereafter, the battalion departed Australia for tours in New Guinea, Philippine Islands, and Japan. In August 1946, it was converted, reorganized and re-designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 124th Transportation Corps Truck Battalion. The battalion served proudly in Yokohama, Japan from 31 October 1946 to 25 May 1947. In November 1946, the battalion was re-designated Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 124th Transportation Battalion. The battalion was inactivated 25 May 1947 at Yokohama, Japan.

The battalion was reactivated on 1 February 1967, at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. The battalion departed Fort Devens and arrived at Qui Nhon, Vietnam on 24 July 1967, beginning a tour of distinction in the Republic of Vietnam. The battalion returned to Fort Lewis, Washington and was inactivated on 17 May 1971.

On 16 April 1986; the 124th Transportation Battalion was activated at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. On 16 October 1993, the battalion was re-designated as the 524th Corps Support Battalion. From March 2004 to March 2005 the 524th Corps Support Battalion deployed as Logistics Task Force 524 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On 11 January 2006 the 524th Corps Support Battalion in conjunction with the Army’s Transformation Initiative was subsequently reorganized and redesignated as the 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. From 28 August 2006 to 3 September 2007 the 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In July 2009 the 524th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion was called to service again and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
