Sergeant Major Scott C. Miller is a native of Fromberg, Montana. He entered the Army on September 27, 1988 as an Infantryman and attended Basic Training and Advance Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. After a break in active duty service he reenlisted as a Fire Support Specialist and attended Advance Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 2001. He has served in numerous positions to include, Rifleman, Fire Team Leader, Rifle Squad Leader, Rifle Platoon Sergeant, Forward Observer, Company Fire Support NCO, Battalion Fire Support NCO, Brigade Fire Support NCO, Special Forces Group Fire Support NCO, Brigade Fire Support Operations NCO, First Sergeant and Battalion Command Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Miller’s assignments include the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Kobbe, Panama (Operation Just Cause). 1st Battalion, 505th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina (Operation Desert Storm). 19th Special Forces Group in the Colorado National Guard. 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky (Operation Iraqi Freedom I). 3rd Battalion 7th Field Artillery, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii (Operation Enduring Freedom V). 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii (Operation Iraqi Freedom V). 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (multiple deployments to Operation Enduring Freedom). Joint assignment to Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom). Future Forces Integration Directorate, Fort Bliss, Texas. 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery, Fort Bliss, Texas as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major. 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as the HHB First Sergeant, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as the HHC First Sergeant, Headquarters and Support Company 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as the First Sergeant. Sergeant Major for the 25th Infantry Divisions, Jungle Operations Training Center. Sergeant Major Miller is currently the detachment SGM for 5th Battlefield Coordination Detachment, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
Sergeant Major Miller’s military education includes the Total Army Instructor Trainer Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Joint Fires Controller Course, Jungle Warfare Training Center, Collateral Damage Estimation Course, Precision Strike Suite-Special Operation Forces Course, Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Pathfinder Course, Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leadership Course, Senior Leadership Course, First Sergeant Course and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. Graduated from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy and a Bachelor’s Degree from Excelsior College in Business and Management.

Sergeant Major Miller is married and they have three children.
As the senior liaison unit for the Commander, United States Army Forces (ARFOR) operating in the Pacific theater to the Joint Force Air Component Commander (JFACC) for the United States Pacific Command, the 5th BCD facilitates the integration of air power with ARFOR ground operations through the coordination of air support and the exchange of operational and intelligence information. The BCD ensures that the JFACC and 613th Air Operations Center (AOC), Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, are aware of the ARFOR Commander's intent, scheme of maneuver, and requirements for air support.
