Lt. Col. Angel Bermudez-Castro is a native of Guam. He graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1992, where he was awarded a Bachelors of Science Degree in Anthropology and received a reserve commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Armor Corps. He holds a Master’s degree in a Management & Leadership from Webster University.
Lt Col. Bermudez is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course and Field Artillery Advance Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In addition, he graduated the Combined Arms Services Support School (CAS3) and Command General Staff Course (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His portfolio of achievements also includes qualifications from U.S. Army Airborne and Air Assault Schools. Lt. Col. Bermudez entered the Hawaii Army National Guard in 1988 and was assigned to Troop E. 19th CAV at Diamond Head. In 1992, he began active duty service as a Tank Platoon Leader, Tank Company Executive Officer, and Headquarters & Headquarters Company Executive Officer with 4th Battalion, 67th Armor in Friedberg, Germany. After completion of the Field Artillery Advance Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Lt Col. Bermudez was assigned as an Operations Officer and K Troop Commander, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
For his next assignment, Lt Col. Bermudez served as an Operations Officer with 5th Brigade, 78th Division at Fort Meade, Maryland. In 2002 his career path took him to Doha, where he accepted an assignment as the Operations Officer for ARCENT-Qatar, located at Camp As-Sayliyah. After completion of this 27 month Middle Eastern tour, Lt Col. Bermudez attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Immediately following graduation from CGSC, Lt Col. Bermudez was appointed as the Operations Officer for 3rd Squadron, 4th Calvary, 3rd Brigade, 25th Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. His next assignment was with 3rd Squadron, 16th Calvary, at Fort Knox, Kentucky where he held the position of Squadron Executive Officer. Prior to arriving on Guam, Lt Col. Bermudez was deployed to Iraq serving as a Security Assistant Officer with the Multi-National Security Transition Command Iraq located in Baghdad.
Lt Col. Bermudez’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), and the National Defense Medal. Furthermore, Lt Col. Bermudez’s skill badges include both Airborne and Air Assault Badges.
