Aloha and welcome to the 18th MEDCOM (DS) and Hawaii. This assignment can truly be a rewarding experience. It is an exciting time in Hawaii as we are realizing the Army's vision for Transformation for our Pacific Theater. The 18th Medical Deployment Support Command is one of the last Theater Enabling Commands (TEC) activated in the Pacific, joining the 8th TSC, 311th Signal, 520th MI, 94th AAMDC, & 320th CA. The unit is multi-compo (active, reserve, and AGR) and has under 200 personnel assigned to it. The unit is actually ADCON to Pacific Regional Medical Command and OPCON to United States Army Pacific Command.
If you are new to Hawaii, there are a few challenges to work through, i.e., authorized shipment for only one car, housing can be expensive if you cannot get on-post housing, schooling can be a challenge for some families depending upon where you live, etc. However, once these issues are addressed you'll find that Hawaii truly is paradise and the assignment will be a very difficult one to leave when the time comes.
