COLONEL JAMES E. SHIELDS
COL James Shields was born in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Washington in 1987 and his Masters of Science degree in Logistics Management from Florida Tech in 1999. He earned his commission after his sophomore year at the University of Washington through the ROTC early commissioning program. He then entered active duty in 1987 upon his graduation. His previous assignments include G4, Western Regional Medical Command, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Deputy Commander for Administration, Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington; DCSLOG 18th Medical Command, Yongsan, Korea; Director, Strategic Capabilities and Materiel, United States Army Medical Materiel Agency, Fort Detrick, Maryland; Battalion Executive Officer, 147th Medical Logistics Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Chief, Logistics, McDonald Army Community Hospital, Fort Eustis, Virginia; Chief, Materiel, 16th Medical Logistics Battalion, Camp Carroll, Korea; BN S4, 79th Forward Support Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington; Commander, Co C, 79th Forward Support Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California; Chief, Services Branch, Munson Army Community Hospital, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Medical Platoon Leader, 5-20 Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea. His awards and decoration include the Meritorious Service Medal (7 OLC), the Army Commendation Medical (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medical, the National Defense Service Medal, the Basic Airborne and Expert Field Medical Badges, and is a recipient of the AMEDD Order of Military Medical Merit.
